Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever, for wisdom and might are thine! Thou givest wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. Thou revealest deep and secret things! Thou knowest what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with thee.[1] Thou art wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.[2]
Oh Lord! how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all.[3] Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters! Thy footsteps are not known;[4] but secret things belong unto thee.[5] Hell is naked before thee, and destruction hath no covering.[6] There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against thee;[7] for thou makest the devices of the people of none effect.[8] Thou takest the wise in their own craftiness.[9] Yet out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.[10]
The way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.[11] Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me.[12]
God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory! give unto me the spirit of wisdom in the knowledge of thee;[13] Thou who givest to all men liberally, and upbraidest not.[14] And to God only wise be glory, through Jesus Christ for ever.[15]
